In today’s society we live hand in hand with technology only the most creative minds could have dreamed of a 100 years ago. Every day scientists all over the world push the boundaries of what is possible to a next level. A while ago a new level in aviation has been reached that needs to be brought once again under the spotlight, Zero Fuel Flights.
The idea for zero fuel flights was highly criticized by the aviation industry and was branded as impossible. Luckily there are people who do as much as 6 impossible things before breakfast and make the world all the more wonderful for it. A team of such people worked on the Solar Impulse 2.
This aircraft is covered in about 17,000 photovoltaic cells powering its propeller engines day and night. The Solar Impulse 2 covered a distance of 42,000 km and made stops in several continents. It is the first aircraft that managed to fly around the world without using a single drop of fuel.
The project started with the goal to raise awareness for sustainable technology in the aerospace industry. Their project has certainly made a positive impact on the aerospace industry and motivated many others to make their contribution to a greener world.
